Former royal chef on cooking for Princes William and Harry: “They loved a piping bag full of meringue”


Carolyn Robb was the leading chef at Kensington Palace, cooking up some eye-satisfying creations for the royal loved ones — including Princes William and Harry when they had been boys. 

She’s sharing some of her ideal recipes in her new e book, “Tea at the Palace: A Cookbook: 50 Tasty Afternoon Tea Recipes.” This is her 2nd guide, with a 3rd slated to be introduced all over the vacations. 

The South African chef got her begin early: She was just 21 yrs aged just after she impressed Prince Charles and the late Diana, Princess of Wales all through a meal services. She grew to become the initial woman chef for the royal couple.

“I was so motivated I just threw myself into the career,” Robb advised CBS News’ Roxana Saberi 

As element of her teaching, Robb said that she received a crash training course in royal protocol. 

“The initial time you see a member of the royal household every single day, you curtsy to them, which can be a little bit awkward if you are in the kitchen with the potato peeler in your hand,” she said. 

As the individual chef to both Prince Charles and Diana, she mastered all of the family’s favourite meals and treats. Just one of the recipes in “Tea at the Palace” features a meringue recipe that both Prince William and Harry liked when they ended up young. 

“They loved a piping bag comprehensive of meringue,” reported Robb. 

Robb was at Kensington Palace in 1997 when the youthful princes had to cope with the sudden loss of life of their mom. 

“There was very tiny that any individual undoubtedly in my place could genuinely do. But to know that the meals was the finest it could perhaps be. I do believe it has a function to play, and the fact that the kitchen area was generally a heat and satisfied and welcoming position,” she recalled.  

In her new book, Robb aims to provide the convenience of cooking to everyone’s dwelling. 

“I hope it is really just all component of a larger working experience, expending time with spouse and children and mates and having fun with some treats. A thing a little bit unique, a little something that you never have just about every one day,” Robb explained.
