Report: Man threatens to kill cat for “Chinese food” | News, Sports, Jobs

GIRARD — A city man was arrested after a domestic dispute that saw him threaten to kill a woman’s pet for “Chinese food.”

Jefferey McCrory, 38, of 1075 Woodlawn Ave., pleaded not guilty in Girard Municipal Court Friday morning to charges of using weapons while intoxicated and domestic violence.

According to a police report, officers were called to the address just before midnight Thursday. They found McCrory on the porch. McCrory told police he and the woman had been fighting for the last couple of days due to a breakup.

McCrory admitted to having eight beers throughout the night and admitted to threatening to shoot her cat, saying, “We can make Chinese food out of it,” the report states. He denied, however, ever touching the shotgun during the argument and denied threatening the woman.

She confirmed the two had been arguing and that McCrory said he could make food of the cat during the argument. She told police he went into a bedroom closet and grabbed his shotgun. The report states she was “in fear for her life and ran away from McCrory to contact dispatch.”

Police found the shotgun and took it as evidence. The report states the firearm did not have a round in the chamber, but had four rounds in the magazine tube and another six rounds in a sidesaddle.

A witness to the argument told police she heard the two arguing upstairs and corroborated that McCrory threatened to kill the animal. McCrory was then taken to Trumbull County jail.

At his arraignment, Judge Jeffrey Adler set bond at $7,500 and scheduled a pretrial hearing for 9 a.m. July 15. Court records show McCrory was released from jail and was placed on electronic monitoring.
